In April 2012 two volumes, with which I have had some involvement and which may appeal to biblical scholars and inquiring general readers, will appear from the publishers. The first is from T&T CLark entitled Psychological Hermeneutics of Biblical Themes and Texts, New Directions in Biblical Studies: A Festschrift Honoring of Wayne G. Rollins (Ellens, ed). It has two secions: approach and application. The endorsements by leading scholars in the field are really very impressive and enticing. The volume presents the theoretical model and its methods of application to the biblical text. It includes a history of the of scholarly work on the development of the psychological lens for critical analysis of the Bible, an enterprise founded by Rollins (and Ellens) in the SBL a quarter century ago. The second volume for April is written by Zenon Lotufo, Jr. of Sao Paulo and is entitled, Cruel God, Kind God, How our Concept of God Shapes Our Attitudes and Outlook. It is published by ABC-CLIO Praeger Publishers. The title accurately suggests its contents. This volume, while thoroughly scholarly and comprehensive, is written for the general reader and professionals interested in this subject as corollary to their prime interests. It is a profoundly important volume and we are fortunate that it is published in English. A Portuguese edition is anticipated. Add Comment | Author
